Elsewhere in the world of Kickstarter, Madeleine Holly-Rosing is funding her latest Boston Metaphysical Society book.

It's looking gorgeous! If you need to catch up, there are reward tiers that include the previous books as well. Here's the campaign page:

Here's how Madeleine describes the book on her page, which I'd say is a sure draw:

Who will love Boston Metaphysical Society?

  • Fans of Penny Dreadful, Girl Genius, Ruse, steampunk and gaslamp fantasy stories.
  • People who like to read paranormal, historical fiction, and/or alternate history.
  • If you like character-driven comics with a mix of paranormal and science fiction, then these are the comics for you!

THE STORY

Even after saving Boston from The Shifter, Caitlin is thrown out by her mother for working with Samuel and Granville. When she goes to Samuel for help, he takes her to the boarding house of an old friend in Philadelphia. There she discovers a ghost, the beginning of a rebellion, and perhaps her destiny.  This story is a standalone continuation of the original six issue mini-series.

GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLL!

Thanks to you, we've hit our funding goal of $1500 and Roads (Not) Taken will be making its way to print and digital! We appreciate your support and look forward to getting these books out to you in the coming months.

Time for stretch goals? Sure, let's do stretch goals. Several of our contributors have offered to share additional short digital comics if we hit $2000. All backers at or above the digital tier will receive this bonus pack if we reach the first stretch goal. So keep this train moving! Thanks so much!

Jason Czaplicki on What Amounts to a Hill of Beans
about 5 years ago – Tue, Feb 12, 2019 at 08:04:20 AM

We're so close, friends! Thank you all once more for supporting this project -- we've been working for ages to bring it to you and are so excited to get it into readers' hands.

And now a word from Jason C:

----

"What Amounts to a Hill of Beans" is an analogue to my own tale. Back in 2014 I was feeling tired, frustrated, and unappreciated at my day job. I woke up one morning, got dressed, and started driving to work and realized that I was done with the life I was currently living. With ruminations of other destinations I wanted to travel to, I turned my car around and called my parents and asked them if they wanted to go out for breakfast. I told them how I was feeling, and they let me know that they'd support me along my travels in any way they could. That was the extra courage I needed, and afterwards I went into work and told my boss I was going to be putting in my two weeks notice, although he was fine with letting me leave that day. Ha! Maybe the feeling was mutual, and they were done with me as well!

Afterwards I took to the open road which has been filled with unexpected challenges, but also filled with unexpected rewards. Finding myself amongst a group of like-minded travelers is one of those rewards. For me the fruition of the Roads (Not) Taken anthology represents a waystation along a difficult highway filled with narrow and winding roads. This waystation is a place where adventurers like ourselves come together and share our traveling tales. I hope everyone enjoys our shared stories of life, purpose, new beginnings, and untimely ends. I bet those of you who support our travels will even find a little soemthing in our stories to take along with you on your own journies.

Safe travels!

Will Allred on Nikola Tesla
about 5 years ago – Mon, Feb 11, 2019 at 04:23:47 AM

Good morning, backers, and welcome to the second and final week of our campaign! We're already nearing 80% funded, so I'd say we're looking good -- if you're digging what you've seen so far, give us a shout on social media or in casual in-person conversations to help push us over the top! Thanks much.

Today's update is from Will Allred, writer of "Man Out of Time," our Nikola Tesla feature in Roads (Not) Taken.

---

Tesla invented the present.

Our present.

And, he did it over a century ago.

And, we drove him mad for it.

But it wasn't a present that he ever really got credit for or even got to see.

Nikola Tesla died penniless and alone in room 3327 of the New Yorker Hotel on January 7th, 1943, but his genius touches us every day. Few seem to know the debt that we owe him. Regardless, he, at the very least, deserves our thanks.

And, that is the core of "Man out of Time," thanking him for everything that sprang from his mind. Tesla is a man out of time in so many ways on that cold January day.

We hope you enjoy the story. I know had great deal of fun writing and lettering it and working with artist Chris Shaffer and colorist Alexander Lidstrom on the story, but this story would not exist if not for the support of the Comics Experience Creators Workshop.

Unlike Tesla, we had support. We are not alone. The Creators Workshop is a wonderful place where members help members make comics. Writers get scripts critiqued. Artists get pencils, inks, and colors critiqued. Letterers receive critiques, too. No aspect of comics creation is off limits for improvement. So, if we're passing out thanks, then the members of the Creators Workshop deserve our heartfelt thanks, too.

Unlike Doctor Tesla, we have a community that supports us.

Tesla still fascinates us to this day, but it doesn't change the fact that he died penniless and alone in room 3327 of the New Yorker Hotel on January 7th, 1943

But maybe, just maybe, he died happy.

New Comics Experience rewards!
about 5 years ago – Sat, Feb 09, 2019 at 07:43:45 AM

It's the weekend, and we've just cleared $1000 on the campaign! Thanks so much for all of your support so far. We're starting to think of stretch goals, and already have some fun bonus material lined up if we exceed the $1500 goal.

As you know, Roads (Not) Taken originated in the Comics Experience workshop group, which has been a great resource for many of us in getting honest, thoughtful critiques from our peers as well as industry professionals, and also to learn and discuss the business of comics.

We had initially offered three CE memberships as campaign rewards; those sold out immediately.

So now we've added more!

But wait! You'll also see a new $100 reward level offering a "Breaking into Comics" live session with Comics Experience founder Andy Schmidt, plus the three-month workshop membership. Andy is a fantastic resource, not only for his long experience in the industry as an editor at IDW (Transformers, GI Joe) and Marvel (you can thank him for making Guardians of the Galaxy cool) but also for his generous support of aspiring and early-career writers and artists. So if you're here because you, too, are interested in improving your craft and making your way in comics, I sincerely encourage you to upgrade your pledge and take advantage of this live session with Q&A.

Thanks, Andy, for your generosity in offering these Comics Experience rewards! And thanks to all of you for backing the campaign. Keep the momentum rolling!
